So I work at a ship yard where we are allowed to have personal radios with us, but I don't really like how the store sold radios sound.

So....

I've been eyeballing this

Wont let me post links yet. Well on parts express in the diy section there is a 4x100box amplifier its only the board and im wondering if something like that will help

Im wondering if I could build this into a box along with the speakers and have one semi portable unit. I would use my phone as the audio source so im not really worried about a sourc
I hope I've explained myself well enough.

Realized I may have not clarified well enough, im picturing 1 box with essentially 2 2-way speakers and a woofer all togerher

I work on construction sites alot, and one of the best sounding job site radios I've heard is the Makita. Very compact and has a nice full sound. Its probably not much larger than a shoebox. Plus its pretty durable. Home Depot carries them, maybe Lowes too. Just a thought.

The thing is between ear plugs and the massive amount of ambient volume where I work the normal jobsite radios just don't have enough punch without sounding like a scratchy record within 2 months

Have you tried an MP3 player that has a radio? Then let the ear buds double as ear plugs.

The best work radio I've used is the Milwaukee, (even the older one) They all have large amp sections. You may be at the mercy of how good the FM signal is with all the steel around.
Do you have a stationary work area or do you move around a lot?

If you're trying to fill a large open space, it's probably not going to happen without big drivers with lots of power.
That's why I'm thinking a personal player with ear buds may be the way to go.
Good Luck!

Keep looking at the specs- it may put out 100W but it will be pretty distorted. Granted, a shipyard can be noisy and pristine sound won't matter but it's not robust power. Also, you still need a power supply.

I would go for the Milwaukee jobsite radio, too. IIRC, Rockford-Fosgate designed the amplifier section.

Hey,
Your ideas a bit different from mine, but it's the same general idea I'm looking at in a current thread of mine. I'll post the link in a my next post, as I've not yet reached my quota of posts to be able to post links.
