I trying to figure out porting and adequate bracing for a JL12W7 and box in exterior box size of 18"H x 18" D x48"w with double walled front 48" wide where subwoofer is mounted. I am open to slot porting or multiple square ports if performs better

What do you think of this post?

What I would do is around 200L tuned to 17hz. A 2nd order HPF cented around 16hz will do. A slot Vent would be something like 10 x 3.5 x 41 inches or so. This will allow you to throw around 1000w at it for roughly 110-115db @ 1m Rolloff should be smooth towards 20hz and sharp below that.

What do you recommend ?

Porting and any other recommendations

Ready to Build , your input would be helpful

thanks

Ideally with a 12W7 you will want somewhere around 45 in^2 of vent surface area if memory serves me correctly. That puts your current design around 10in^2 short. That amount (45in^2) will keep your vent velocity below 17m/s.

Without modeling your design I am just going from memory however.

Passive radiators may be a better option as proper vents for a 12W7 displace some serious volume.

The XLS DriveCore has a 12dB / Octave roll off at 20Hz...
