Jill Scott on Palladia HD/VH1 Soul

This is an older concert, as it aired on both VH1 Soul and MHD before MHD became Palladia. However, I recently recorded it and watched it. Visual goodness? Yep... This is real HD not as filtered or distant as many concerts. Jill's pores and pimples are there. The clothing on Jill is full of patterns and colors that would look awful in SD but shine in HD. Nothing looks overly filtered or muddled. Everything is very warm. Sonic goodness? Well, we are talking DD. Moreover, I watched it via Dish not Verizon, so it was cut down even further. It's definitely a bit flat on range and not as rich as a CD. It certainly won't match a SACD or Blu-Ray. However, instruments are clearly heard. Moreover, it's quite directional. What do I mean by that? With the Pussycat Dolls: Live in Manchester on MHD all the sound was the same. With the Jill Scott set, there is a guitar player that's on the left side of the stage. When he plays a quick solo, the sound only comes from the left main. With the Pussycat Dolls, all vocals were from the center and that was that despite them moving all around the stage.

The music itself? I know a lot of the posts deal w/ classic rock here--no worries. (We need to show some love to country, reggae, gospel, etc., too.) However, Jill Scott is Neo-Soul--more so than even Erykah Badu. She has a soulful and forceful voice that makes you lift your head from time to time. However, the music itself is nice and easy to absorb while relaxing on the couch.

My main complaint besides the low bitrate audio? The set is too short. She didn't even perform "I Think It's Better".

Who is Jill Scott? ;) Read more below.

I always liked her tune with The Roots, "You Got Me"
