what watt rating would you look for to drive a pair of JBL 130s..???
also if you hooked them to a small compact stereo that had this..
total power:

15 watts per channel rated at 1 kHz
12 watts per channel rated at 120-10,000 Hz
could you damage the speakers and how would that happen??

I would prefer a receiver with at least 50 watts per channel to drive them

Cheap power with high volume can do more damage to a speaker, than with
a receiver that has much more power. Speakers get damaged when an amp
runs out of power and sends a clipped signal to the speakers. This is usually
heard as a static, distorted sound.

There your speakers, so take the chance. I wouldn't. I'm pretty sure the majority will say the same, but hey who knows

Most speakers are using just a few watts average. I say try it out and see how they are, but my guess is it won't be enough for a lot of output and is asking for problems. If you turn it up and they sound distorted in any way (unclear, or "scratchy" sounding), turn them down and consider a more powerful amp. The risk you run is damaging the drivers in the speakers.
