What's the word on these baby's? Specs look really good... 12" front firing, sealed, 400 watt rms/600 peak, 63lbs, -3db 22hz

Steal for $700 a pair @ Jbl.com?

Not much info on the sub, found a "preview" article by audioholics on the sub 550p... That's it.

It won't dig very deep, and it probably doesn't have the flattest response, but if you place two of them in the right spots, it should sound fine. The specs are meaningless. Personally, I would save up a bit more and get a Hsu VTF3 mk5, that will wreck a couple of JBL subs.

Thanks, I'm actually looking at the new uls subs now that there so cheap.

Any thoughts on the Dayton rs1202 assembled or kit though?

Nothing comes up on google, the manual says the sub is flat to 27hz and exceeds 120db from 30-90hz. It looks like a beast for a under $1000 sealed sub.

The RS1202 is interesting. The cabinet weighs a ton, but it should be very inert due to opposed drivers and massive bracing and heavy panels. The drivers are the RF series, very low inductance, with three shorting rings, so it should be very low distortion. Only problem is (aside from the weight) that the Dayton amp has a undefeatable high-pass filter, which is a no-no on sealed subs, as far as I am concerned. Still, in the music ranges, it should be very good, especially if you wanted to set something on the cabinet and not have it vibrate. I doubt it will keep up with the Hsu subs though, however, at moderate listening levels, it should be an extremely clean sub. I would still go for a VTF3 or a ULS-15 over the RS1202, but there is some interesting design choices in the RS1202.
