2 of the 4 subs in my reference system are Velodyne DD15s. They are very nice subs both performance and aesthetics. They've been around a long time however so you should be able to get one at a substantial discount. The reason to go Velodyne over some of the larger fanboy style subs is for size constraints and a higher WAF. They also play very clean with no mechanical rattles that I found with many of the higher output subs I've heard over the years. The Velo has a very nice DSP interface with infinite adjustability making it easier to blend with mismatched subs. It also has a remote control which I find very useful in subs.

I'm not familiar with the new JBL Project Array sub but I can tell you JBL pro subs are very high quality and used as a reference among pro installers and CEDIA trainers.

Consider size and cost when choosing a sub and NEVER purchase one monster sub without first considering setting up a 2 or 4 sub system to yield the benefits of modal averaging ensuring a smoother bass response for all seats in your room.
