JBL or Velodyne

So after finish choosing my speakers and Receiver, my next step is the subwoofer.

My budge is aprox. <$200... i might go over budget a little with good reasons
the size of the room is quite small.... aprx 12x12

Looking at the JBL Venue sub10


and the Velodyne


They look pretty much the same except for the Frequency Response(i am not familiar with this term since i am new to this whole home theater thing, but from what i read, it allows the sub to play those low notes?)

Anyway, to cut it short... which one would you prefer? just want some opinions i know hearing is believing, but i don't have time the week to stop by a local store. any recommendation are welcome.... mainly using it to play music and movies.

My recommendation would be to buy the best sub you can afford, if you can push that 200 mark then do it.

What model of the Velodyne sub were you looking at?

I've owned a couple of subs in my days and I like my current Velodyne VX-10 but if I could have bought more of a sub I would have.

There are some internet direct brands that people are fond of around here, I'm sure someone will chime in about getting something from HSU or AV123. They have a pretty good reputation for their lower priced (and more expensive) subs.

BIC H100. I think it's only $229 shipped. I don't think there's a better buy out there.

I suggest springing for another hundred and going with Hsu. Cheaper than Velodyne and better than JBL, in a 12 x 12 room (about my size) even the lower priced Hsu's STF 1 will rock your space. I went for the STF 2 ($349), which will move my clothes.

For $299, I don't need to hear it to know it would be far superior to that JBL. AV123 offers a return policy too, in case you find you don't like it. I had the JBL Sub-12 and wasn't happy with the lack of detail and frequency response. Way too boomy and sloppy for my liking.

Frequency response describes the lowest (or highest) frequency a driver can play to, without sacrificing loudness (usually within a range of +/- 3dB). 20 Hz represents the lowest audible frequency the human ear can hear - below that, it's all felt. If you can find a sub that delivers a flat (remember +/- 3 dB) response in-room down to 20 Hz or lower, and is reasonably priced, I would suggest giving it a listen.

I just order a pair of Celestion F15 and Yamaha HTR-6030 receiver. and was looking at the subwoofer you currently have. almost bought it, but not without asking you audioholics first lol.

I have another newbie question, the pair of speakers i just order. for the product type, it saids "2.0-channel Speaker System", since i bought the 5.1 Channel Receiver, i could get the 5.1 by buying more speakers right? as i said before, i am totally new to the home theater stuff...

Yes you can buy more speakers! Your going to need a GOOD subwoofer for those bookshelf F15's. You will be amazed at the difference between a good sub, and a cheap sub. Look at this $300.00 Hsu Research:

You should really consider a good sub. With the 4" woofers in those F15's your going to need it.
