JBL Flip! Evolution of speaker or devolution of specifications?

I have a JBL Flip. I like it as a good combination of convenient form factor, battery life, sound quality, and looks.
I was recently looking at he specifications and noticed that over three generations, JBL gave the bottom end of the frequency response as follows:
Flip (1) at 150Hz
Flip 2 at 100Hz
Flip 3 at 85Hz

All three generations specify a 40mm (1.575") driver.

So my question is "has JBL actually managed to get that much deeper bass from a 1.6" driver?"
If they did, I'm ready to upgrade my Flip!

I am suspecting not, but figure someone here would probably know about it if they came across some fairy dust.

In the highly competitive large volume portable BT speaker market, I guess it makes sense for JBL (and thereby, Harman) to join the crowd with exaggerated specs, but it is still sad to see it happen!

It tends to be a marketing mind game out there. One thing for sure, there has to be a bass bump in them, regardless of how low they really go.
