Heeeelp, I just got a used JBL sub 150 and a denon AVR 1603 reciever. Everything hooks up well but no sound is coming from my sub. I put a new cable from the sub out on the amp to the pre in on my sub. Any ideas why no sound is coming out?

Are you sure you are running the coax cable from the 1603 sub pre-out to the input on the sub?

Also, have you gone to your receivers settings and turned the sub channel on?

Try calibrating the woofer itself and make sure the woofer is actually turned on (yes sometimes that is a problem I have seen).

JBL 159 sub

Yes there is a green light on the sub, and I bought a brand new monster cable for it. the place on the Denon 1603 receiver clearly says sub pre out and I put it to the single LFE input and even tried the other two RCA inputs in back. I think I chose the "sub on" setting on the reciever. Giot to go home tonight and check for sure since I do not have a manual for it. I looked online and saw one there. but it wont let me print it.

I don't know where you went on the web to get the manual, but use this link

http://usa.denon.com/ArchivedAVReceivers.asp?archivedModelSearch=true&clearCurrent=true&archivedCategory=AV&archivedModel=AVR-1603&imageField.x=24&imageField.y=12

This is on Denon's own site. If the above link doesn't work, then go to the
Denon USA site, toward the top of the page you'll see a box that says
"OWNERS" click on that, scroll down to the "DISCONTINUED PRODUCTS ARCHIVE" and in the select a category box, select AV RECEIVERS, then in the select a model, click the 1603. You'll see 2 downloadable files. You should be able to download the Owners manual file. You should be able to print it after you download it.

EZ to check the sub..
Turn it ON. Take the other end of the RCA cable, plug 1 end into the sub and turn the level up about 50%. Touch the other end of the RCA cable, if good you should hear an audible hum when the cable end is touched.

Just my $0.02... ;)
