Seth=L has asked what I think about the JBL HT-1F THX brand while he hasn’t hooked them up for testing I’ll said I’ll take time out and do a quick A&B test over one of the JBL control 5 monitors that I use for the three-screen.
With the John Williams score cutting in as shifty ole Bruce’s fin surfaces over the waters with a 89dbc weighting at 0db, but the amplifiers have been balanced not to exceed certain levels where it would become uncomfortable, anyway while the rest of the music and sound effects along with dialogue are clearly recorded in this monaural mix it’s still plenty enough to keep you on the edge ok I’ll now switch the JBL control 5 over and play the same scene again.
Again with the score coming in, only this time at 87.5dbc weighting.
Bypassing one of the two equalizers that I have connected for the centre channel primarily for the use with the JBL control 5 set-up, so set one in to bypass mode. Score cuts in at 89dbc without harshness to the sound this due to the JBL HT-1F good balanced x-over at the mid frequencies and while I can still feel the string moment still makes for a tense ole scene with Bruce!
While Bruce only bites down to a 85dbc there’s a little thumb in 40Hz range that requires the sub bass extension to give it jolt!
Playing the showdown to Jaws with this superbly re-mixed soundtrack in Dolby six-track while some of the original sound elements remain the rest is just fantastic.
With Bruce getting blown to smithereens of fish bate for the seagulls at 91dbc on the JBL HT-1F THX it was clear no without distortion I was tempted to take it up a little bit more, but it was satisfying never the less satisfying.
Over to the JBL control 5 now and while I’ll have to switch the second equalizer to on! Let’s see what happens. With poor ole Bruce getting splattered to fish bate once again at 91.5dbc
