I know this is not A/V related, but I have been a forum member for several years. Mods feel free to remove this post if it violates any protocols.

If anyone has friends or family in Japan, I hope that they are safe. Joni Owada (my sister) and her family are currently unaccounted for, and we are trying to get information on the extent of the damage in her area of Japan. If anyone has contacts there that could help, please let me know. she lives in Kesen-gun, Iwate, Japan, which is about 80 miles north of Sendai, and Her village is only 11 miles NW of the highest waves from the Tsunami that hit Ofunato. There is also more detailed information on the Google website for Japan earthquake missing persons.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all involved.
You must be a nervous wreck; Can't imagine your fear of not knowing...
If it's any consolation, Kesen-gun looks to be inland and west enough; so I'm hoping the worst is they're without power and phone service.
Please keep us posted, and all the best.

Information from Iwate prefecture officials (Sumita-cho, Kesen-gun)

Hello cutter,

I just registered on this forum specifically to reply to your post because I found it while searching for information on Kesen-gun myself. I apologize to Audioholics users for this off-topic thread, but hopefully people will understand.

My brother & his family live in Sumita. Based on your description of your sister's town, it sounds like this is where she lives, too. This morning I saw the following information on twitter:

It means "No human suffering in Sumita town." @pref_iwate 3/12 17:00時点/被害・避難情報】 住田町:人的被害なし、津波による冠水被害あり

This is very encouraging news. Please feel free to contact me by private message so that we can exchange information.

I don't think I can PM you until you have a certain number of posts on the forum, but that sounds like great news! Have you been able to contact your brother? I hope and pray that our families are safe...
my email is (lhruska at hotmail dot com) if you would to prefer to communicate that way... thank you so much for posting this message. I know my sister was experiencing an inordinate number of earthquakes for several days before the big one hit. The last contact we had with her was an email sent 1 hour before it happened.

Thanks again,

I sincerely hope the best for both of your families. If either one of you have AT&T Uverse cable they are airing a Japanese channel for free, channel number 3680 on my system, from now through March 17. If you have friends or neighbors that have Uverse cable you may want to check with them for news.

Just to update any who might be interested, it turns out that my brother and his family are all safe. My brother actually knows cutter's sister (small world) and although he has not been in contact with her, he reported that her house along with most buildings in their town are still standing.

This is certainly a happy coincidence in the midst of tragedy.

a sigh of relief...

my sister contacted my mom tonight. She and the family are all OK, shaken up but not injured. There are lots of broken windows, no electric, heat or water, but they are alive!

Thank you to everyone who sent well-wishes and prayers her way...

Wonderful news! A good reason to never get rid of the steam vent!

It seems we quickly trumped the social network sites.

I hope your relatives are all well and safe.

Actually, a lot of people were found through Twitter and Facebook. Annoying/obnoxious/stupid as they may seem, it's a reliable way to get the word out that someone is missing or has been found.

will this ever end?

No word from my sister since Saturday- We are anxious to get her and her 4 small children out of the country but have no way to contact her at this time. I'm hoping we hear from her again soon...

I did hear from Scott that there was a US/British aid team in Sumita providing support, so that was a relief to hear. Thanks to everyone for your well-wishes and support. This situation makes my "agonizing" decision on which plasma TV to buy seem silly and trivial... although CNN looks great on my VT25! (bad attempt at humor, sorry)
