Jamo speakers -- experience

I am planning to update my entire A/V system, with professional installation. Met with two of the guys today and they recommend Jamo speakers for a home theater setup in a den/living room and additional rooms.

I currently have a set of Klipsch Chorus II that will probably be relegated to another room due to size.

Can anyone give me personal experience on Jamo?

Advice on other equipment will be appreciated as well (I've looked at Marantz receivers for years. They recommend Yamaha, primarily due to price point).

Thanks for the help.

It would be helpful if you could list the Jamo speaker model they are recommending, as speakers come in many sizes. I have a few friends with Jamo speakers, they love them. I think they sound fine. Also it helps if you mention a price range you are looking to spend for equipment or speakers. Different budgets will get you different recommendations.

Will do, after I make a visit to the store. Today's visit was a brief walk-through of my house.

Jamo speakers in general are excellent. Although, very different from Klipsch. Once you listen, your ears will tell you what you need to know.

I'm a Jamo dealer and have been for a few years now. Like all speaker manufacturers, the line has strengths & weaknesses. I really really like a few of their pieces. Products like the R909/907, D6 & D7 THX Ultra systems & the new C 80 series are excellent speakers. However, I am bummed that they discontinued the Dark Apple finish on the C 80 line.

Some of their other product can be a bit underwhelming as well. C 60, the A series of on walls, the Jamo subwoofer line (except for the D6 & D7). These are all just OK, and other companies, I feel, offer better value at their price points.

Currently, Jamo is closing out and changing a good portion of their line & thus are giving breaks to dealers who order those pieces & colors. Please post what you are looking at and the colors and I will tell you if they are being offered at extra discounts. If the people you are dealing with are not telling you that the models or colors are being phased out or not passing at least some of that savings on to you somewhere in your quote.... leave them alone! Do not buy from them. Concealment IS a form of lying.

As far as receivers go, I really love Marantz products. I chose Marantz over Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon, etc. I've dealt in, sold, tried, & used them ALL. My experience has been that Marantz is fabulous accross all price points and offers an excellent sounding product with strong durrablity & warranty. Not a lot of bells & whistles, but a professional installer shouldn't need that to get a great working result. Those can often be a hinderance when setting up a system properly.

That being said, if Yamaha is what they're selling, then listen to their reasoning. It will sound great. As long as you don't have to set it up yourself you will be fine.

Hello InTheIndustry,
I purchased a set of Jamo C6 series (full 5.1 with sub c550) and found them to be OK. Nothing outstanding. I recently sold them as someone was willing to pay a good price for them (pretty much what I had paid for them originally). I have herd good things about C80 series. They are all 6 ohm speakers, 87-88 dB sensitivity, correct. I have a Yamaha RX-V663 which I am not planning on changing for a bit (recently purchased it). If I was to go with the C80 series, you think my Yammy can handle to the load. Could you give me a feel for the price for a 5.1 system (including C80 sub). PM me if you dont mind.
Thanks
p.s. Where are you located?

Looks like I have been recommended to the c400/c600/c800 lines based on budget. Matching them with a Yamaha HTR 6160, and a subwoofer 250, s series center and "contractor grade" rear speakers. I will be getting more detailed info next time I talk with him.

The Chorus II will stay in the bedroom with my old equipment. I hope to wire the entire house (primarily for extra zones off the main receiver). I may forego wiring the entire house and instead look to wire those areas that I would like to have background music. I will post more information as I get it.
