Newby needs help. Can anyone tell me if this is a good deal:

It seems that this receiver is not readily available in the US. Based on my research, it usually goes for about ₤500 (~$900) in the UK, which may be an inflated price.

Essentially what I want to know is. . . does anyone on this forum have any experience with this receiver, and if not, can someone tell me based on the specifications on their website (http://www.jamo.com/Default.aspx?ID=1424&M=Shop&PID=12493&ProductID=16997) what kind of audio quality I might expect? It says it has a toroidal transformer, which is usually reserved for higher grade components, yet I doubt that that alone is an indication of audio quality. Anyway. If someone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Im impressed reading about it . Never heard one but would like to , looks like the amp side of it is better than any Yammy and denon at higher price points . 4OHM load into all channels , thats a good power supply for a reciever .

"bumping" is simply someone replying solely for the purpose of moving the topic back up to the top of the most recent list. i.e., so it's more likely to get viewed and possibly get a response from others.

Interestingly enough, Audioholics actually posted a press release on their website concerning this receiver (as well as Jamo's other electronics) in '04. The press release can be found here:

A few quotes from the release:

"The AVR-693 and AVR-793 feature overspecified[?] toroidal transformers and high-grade capacitors (AVR-693: 40,000 µF, AVR-793: 60,000 µF), for extra stability and large reserves of power." (Emphasis mine.)

"Users can also benefit from a six-step LF (low frequency) crossover as well as individual bass management for front, surround and centre channels." (Emphasis mine.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but individual bass management for each speaker (or at least, each set of speakers) is not very typical for receivers at this price point.
