If you are handy at all, you should consider buildling your own. Not only will you have the pride of making them yourself, but for $1000, you'll own a pair of speakers that will compete with speakers costing $3000 or more.

But as for an already completed speaker, I haven't listened to enough at that price point to tell you (sorry!).

1k for 2-channel stereo without the use of a sub in the system?
1k for 2-channel stereo and a powered sub will be used in the system?
1k for 2-channel with powered subs in the speakers?

^^
Should have specified ;p

I currently have a subwoofer, but it's kind of, well, crap.
Yamaha SW215. It was MSRP'd for $120, now it's worth less since it was replaced.

It would be nice not to have to replace it, but if the third option works for 1K or less, that'd be fine.

Thanks for the replys, more would be good

Speakers are a very sensitive subject. Many people like different sounding speakers. It's preference. Period. All of these would be great in a HT system as well.

Cool, thanks zumbo. If anyone has any more input, for or against those two speakers [or just more you like], please keep it coming.

If you are neer an Energy Dealer, may I suggest The C-5's. They are towers with 2 6.5inch woofers. Should sound very nice considering they are selling them cheap. Here they are $375 each(1), so its in your budget. First listen obviously.

The Polks might be hard to drive depending on your receiver.

hmm, closest dealer is 14 miles away, not bad at all. I'm still not %100 sure i'm actually going to buy new speakers, though ;p

There's also the PSB Image Series speakers...They have 3 tower speakers from $799-$1099 per pair. There's been a lot of good reviews on them.

If you can find a dealer, sinclair brighton SB2600T, or SB3600T. They are awesome sounding speakers. I got a pair of 2600T's for the HT in my room and I couldnt be happier.
