I hope I don't raise too many hackles here. My apologies if I do. (Go ahead and fire away, if you're a fan of DK.)

Can anyone put me onto a good, contemporary, female jazz vocalist, one that doesn't sound so .... Diana Krall-ish. I don't mind being put in a musical smoke-filled piano bar...but only if drinks are served. I realize there is some cool bass in DK's music, but that's not quite enough for me. Are there any modern-day Billie Holidays out there? Real, soulful jazz is what I'm looking for.

I'm really behind the times with new stylings. We're sorta backward out here on the Oregon coast with just one and a half radio stations where I live. One is country and the other is classic rock. If I put the antenna WAY up, late at night, I can get jazz from Omaha, lol...but....

You may want to check out Dena DeRose. I just picked up her cd "Another World" and can recommend it, or any of her cds really. You can listen to samples on her website..
