I've got 300 smackers to blow

I've got a good 300-400 dollars to spend, and I'd like to put them into my A/V system. Right now I have an rx-v2500 receiver, a crap subwoofer, and two decent main channel speakers. I'd love a new sub, but should I be cheap and get some more speakers to take me back up to 5.1? I just ditched my HTIB system...thank the Lord.

A good sub gives you bang, but a good center channel speaker gives you clear dialog.

I guess it depends on what kind of movies you like.

A center channel speaker not only gives clearer dialog, but it fixes that sound to the video screen better than if you rely on only the L and R speakers. A center channel speaker that is well matched to the L and R front speakers also creates a wide and seamless front soundstage. In most movies, the center is the most important channel.

good point about the centre channel...that would certainly help, and wouldn't be very expensive as far as my budget goes. and a sub would certainly beef up the room...thanks for the suggestions. :D
