I've become a bass whore!

The title says it all. I added a JL Fathom F112 to my Paradigm Signature S2's this week (music only system) and I've never heard music sound better in my room. I have to admit I did not expect such a big improvement. Previously I had a Klipsch RW-12D, which I know, is not a top of the line sub. I used to think that 20-80 Hz is such a small part of our range of hearing it wouldn't be worth the investment for an expensive sub. Was I wrong! The JL goes so much lower I could not believe it, and the boom is gone! Love it! To top it all off, I snagged it for about half of retail! I have the volume up higher than is should be right now, but it's because I'm just stunned! I have a little tweaking to do yet, but I couldn't be happier. It's been one of the best investments in my system that I have made so far.

Yeah, bass is addictive. The F112 is a great sub for your "music only" use and at the price you paid, it's a no-brainer. Congrats ... :)

Congrats there buddy, the F112 is a superb sub... I love mine, and wouldn't give it up for the world, It is so accurate and powerful depending on the size of the room. Im sure you will enjoy it for many many years to come...

Being a Bass whore myself, I have on the way a couple of 18" LMS's Black Ti cone to replace the Mal-X's - they kinda fell in my lap, so I couldn't pass up the offer...

Here is Tom Nousaine's measurements of it:D

Frequency response (at 2 meters)
24 to 101 Hz ±2.5 dB
Bass limits (lowest frequency and maximum SPL with limit of 10% distortion at 2 meters in a large room)
16 Hz at 80 dB SPL
108 dB average SPL from 25 to 62 Hz
114 dB maximum SPL at 62 Hz
bandwidth uniformity 94%

Ah, but there is the main detail ... accurate. Big difference between a sub(s) that can deliver a powerful and well controlled punch/vibration/etc that's supposed to be there in the first place and a pair of cerwin vegas cranked up to power the local frat party ...

Just be careful... the path is long and dangerous. It may take you a dozen years, or half a century, but the path can lead to potentially deadly results, both for the bass "whore" and his marriage. It can be a curse you can't get out of. It's a worse addiction than alcohol or some drugs. It will limit your choices of places to live. It will limit who your friends are. It may limit your lifespan, too, if you're not careful. ;)

Funny you mention this. I was literally just explaining to the girlfriend today that I have an addiction to audio. Her response: The music sounds really good and it's not like you're an alcoholic or a crack addict. This one may be worth keeping :) Not worried about my choices in places to live. I own my house and have the music system in the basement. The neighbors comment all the time that they can't believe you can't hear anything outside when my windows are closed. They have been over many times to enjoy my system. As far as the last comment, I've heard that time spent lisening to music is not subtracted from your life, and even if it is, I say quality over quantity anyway. :D Cheers!

In my case, the wife doesn't give a rat's *ss about whether my sound addiction is any better than drugs & alcohol. She just doesn't like extremely loud noise. We were watching U-571 last night and there were scenes with depth charges exploding. The movie was much louder than any movie we'd watched prior. She was going berserk and I was being obstinate. She and her mother walked out later. Her father and I watched the second movie without the ladies.
In our case, we're very audible, well beyond a mile from the house, when I start doing the 140+dB blasting when I'm alone at home. When the ground starts to vibrate, all bets are off as to noise suppression.
