It's finally done and I have the pictures to prove it!

Well, after 3 1/2 years of work and 6 months of grief with cabinets and such, described in painful detail in the "Funny thing happened on the way to the home theatre" thread, the basement is finally complete!:D

Still a few items to hang on the wall but that's the department of "she who must be obeyed"...

These pictures are just the entertainment area. My office, workshops, bathroom, storage etc are in the rest of the basement. There is just under 1300 sq. ft. of total development with the entertainment area being 40% of the total.

All I can say is that it was worth the wait and the blood and the tears! I did all the work myself except for the cabinets & carpet.

Note the Harmony 688 on the coffee table. For $100 CDN after the rebate it's the BEST investment I ever made...

If someday I can have something even half as nice, I'd consider myself a lucky guy.

Congrats on a job very well done!!

Looks like at least one of your QS stans is home made? How high did you build it?

Everything looks great!

Actually all 4 of the QS stands are from Axiom...

Beautiful.

One question. How do you get enough bass when sitting in the middle of the room, and only using the velodyne Deco sub? It's a great sub, but that room is dawnting...

The room is 13.5 feet wide and 30 feet long. I spent a lot of time doing the "sub crawl" and its location seemed to work the best.

The volume on the sub is set to between 1/3 & 1/2 and it works great, I actually have to turn it down on occasion depending on the movie...

I will update my profile  , I returned the original sub, the SPL 800II, when I had the chance to pick up the entire Deco system for $550 CDN. It was worth the price (about 1/3 of the 800II) for the sub alone since it's really the slightly older SPL-800 with a different label. The sound is virtually the same at any volume I have dared to try before my wife complains that the dishes upstairs are rattling... I used the other Deco speakers on a small Sony HT system upstairs, which doesn't have a problem with 4ohm loads, go figure, cheap Sony . All in all it was a great value.

Great Job!

I really like the woodwork and the bar stool choice.

Very very nice!

How do you like the effect of your side and rear surrounds?

Most put the sides higher and you said the room is 30' long. Those rears are a long ways away and dipoles to boot with that opening right next to the left one.

It must sound good, You seam very happy and should be!!!

BTW I'll house sit for you any time! (SE Pennsylvania isn't to far. )

ENJOY!!!

Dang, that's one h3!! of a "man cave", but attractive enough not to repel the missus. Like that old Irish Spring soap commercial in which the lass coos, "Manly, yes. But I like it too". Very nice.

My only quibble from an acoustical standpoint is the flat, blank side walls -- first reflections galore. I'd want bookcases or more "stuff" on the walls to absorb and diffuse sound at least between the front speakers and the viewing couch. Pictures alone won't do it.

Well, the long tunnel-like dimensions might be a problem too -- or not. Maybe it only adds a bit of ambience to the sound which can be a good thing. But hey, it makes room for the pool table and bar. Everything's a trade-off in design. Good trade offs IMO.

Otherwise, I share the general admiration! I only hope my room doesn't take 3.5 years to build.

Yea, if I had to do it over again I would probably have gone with the QS8's for the surrounds and the M3ti's for the rear...Oh well, live and learn. The rears are really only used when I run PLxII for music and they seem fine there. For movies I almost always use just a 5.1 setup. As for the height of the surrounds, my better half, for some strange esthetic reason, made it very clear that there we to be no speakers mounted on walls...sigh...

Yup, the "man cave" it is! Only now my wife wants me to teach her how to play Billiards & Snooker...

The walls have had some treatment added, pictures as well as a couple of home made acoustic panels...also the walls and ceiling are 2 layers of drywall with MLV ( mass loaded vinyl ) in between, the subfloor is Delta-FL with 3/4 tongue & groove plywood then 8lb underlay & carpet.

I also played around with some room mode software to help with speaker locations, or rather where I shouldn't place my speakers...

Oh, totally off topic now and time for a mini rant...I just noticed something on the "Ads by Google" bar on the side...."Free Sex Dating Contacts - Real sex adult ads - www.iwantu.com " What the heck is that about! It's the last of 4 ads, the first 3 being the usual audio stuff. And here I thought Audioholics was free of that kind of clap trap! There are places I expect to see that stuff and places I don't, Audioholics falls into the latter category...

Very nice cabinetry work!

Only thing missing to make this a real "man's cave" is a brass pole in the back of the room!

I guess that would blow the WAF, though.
