It's Been Said That "Speakers are What Matters," and so...

As long as you enjoy what you are listening to, then enjoy them.
Klipsch has the resources to make a speaker to compete with any
body. For me I would like more midrange from them. They have found
their market and are getting benefits from it. Many people like Klipsch.

Let the music play!

I doubt you're in the minority, since Klipsch is a leader in sales of speakers. I think the only company that has them beat is Bose.
People have different taste. I probably (probability may still be low though) could get use to them too if I wasn'td keen on fidelity but just how they sound.

Read the first page or two, but didn't take time to read all 13. I thought it was interesting that I did a search on this forum for p362, and ended up finding someone else who was considering pairing them with a tx-8555. You may have moved on to consider other speakers, I don't know. With a goal of building an inexpensive but capable music system I bought the onkyo tx-8555, and a pair of Infinity Primus p362's. I spent <$600. I haven't set them up yet. When I get them all in and hooked up, would be happy to report back. Good luck in your search if you haven't decided yet.

Here's the thread where I made my decision.

Hey, Manther!

Thanks so much for adding your thoughts and input on the topic; indeed, it sounds like you and I were on the same page in terms of equipment, needs and budget! I wanted a very capable 2-channel system for our secondary room (in which we just added a 60 gallon aquarium) but couldn't really go the separates or integrated amp route based on what I wanted -- I had my heart set on Onkyo's A-9555 integrated, which looked and from what I read sounded beautiful, but I ended up being able to literally afford the 8555 stereo receiver, which I feel was a great compromise (Anamorphic96 actually recommended the 8555 to me as one of the most solidly built and powerfully dynamic stereo receivers on the market, ESPECIALLY given its price). And, I got the tuner in the same chassis...:)

That said, I feel the 8555 is a wonderful performer, with lots of power onboard and loads of reserve if you begin to raise the heavy and smooth volume knob; I think this is indeed an "affordable beyond-audio-enthusiast" system I have put together, but I'd be real interested in hearing your thoughts on the 8555 connected to the Infinitys; have you hooked up the 8555 to anything yet? I have not yet settled on new speakers, as I was able to get my R20's to sit better on their stands, but it seems one of them is leaning inward again, so I may be back in the market for better speakers after all...I hear they are discontinuing the Infinity Primus model we're discussing, but honestly, I think I'm ready to step up into something just slightly better -- I would like to, if possible, get my feet wet with some speakers that would be an upgrade from the R20 Polks, kind of going into audiophile territory (not full-blown) but something that would allow a taste of that at a somewhat affordable point.

Your thoughts?

Thanks again for contributing!

PearlcorderS701, I haven't hooked the Onkyo up to anything yet. I have no speakers to speak of. The way I was listening to music up until now was pretty embarrassing. (either car stereo, self powered computer speakers, or through my Sharp Aquious speakers). I have owned decent systems in the past, but its been years.

I'm in no position to give advice, but I will report back how my setup sounds.

You said "you have no speakers to speak of," but didn't you buy the Primuses?

Oh yeah, sorry for the confusion. I bought the receiver, then waited a couple weeks and just bought the infinities online last night. I'm impatiently awaiting them! (Poor receiver is just sitting in the box unopened).

Oh, OK -- did you get the Primus towers or bookshelves? I'd be real interested in reading your sentiments when you get everything hooked up!

I got the towers. The p362's. Found a place on ebay selling them new as pairs with free shipping. Altogether cost me $399.99. Fry's is selling them for $149 each (If you can find a store that still has them in stock). Boredsysadmin showed me a thread on modifying the p362's that make them sound even better.

This thread shows them modifying a set of Primus bookshelf speakers, but I think the same goes for the towers.

Thanks, Manther; I actually picked up my Polk RTi12 towers at a local Frys when they had them for a ridiculously good price because they were a leftover closeout in their stock -- perhaps the same Frys has the P362s as well, but I haven't made up my mind if I am definitely going with them for the 2-channel system...
