It's an electronics miracle!

Okay, maybe not quite that extreme, but I'm very happy! On Tuesday, my Pioneer VSX-1015TX wouldn't power on. Nothing. Nada. After reading on another forum about another guy's experience with this, I unplugged it and plugged it back in. Nothing. I unplugged it and left it unplugged for a couple of hours, then plugged it back in. Nothing. I took it apart...twice. First time to inspect the fuses (looked fine), the second time to do what I should have done the first time - check the continuity of the fuses (were fine). I tried a few more times to power it up with no success. I figured that it was all over and spent a few hours deciding on my next A/V receiver (as well as unpacking and hooking up my older Yamaha as a replacement).

Well, tonight I tried a couple of more times to plug it in and power it up with no success. I left it plugged in and walked into the next room to get the remote to try it instead of the front panel power button (and I had tried this on Tuesday as well). I got distracted, so it was plugged in for a few minutes before I got back...and BAM, it turned on! Now, it seems to be working again.

Maybe it had gotten locked up somehow, and then needed to be unplugged and then plugged in for a bit before it would turn back on. Who knows? I don't, but I'm ecstatic that I don't need to drop a few hundred bucks just to get a receiver that has all of the features that I like on this one.

Yep. I just hope that it's still working after I pull out the Yamaha and put the Pioneer back in and hook it all up.

I did upset myself a bit. While putting one of the screws in on the back plate, the screwdriver slipped and I put what would likely be an imperceptible scratch to most people on the back. Torqued me off, though, but I was very glad that it was on the back instead of one of the other sides.

just wait til you pack up the yammy :)

these electronics have minds you know.

kinda like when you ask an electrician/mechanic to fix something you can't duplicate when he's around.

My xbox 360 decides not turn on the odd occasion. If I unplug the console from the power bar and plug it back in, it will not turn on. If I leave the plug into the power bar and turn the switch off the power bar and turn the switch back to on, my xbox will turn on everytime. Not sure why it works but it does.

That is kinda strange Adam. My 1015 never gave me any problems at all. Kinda wished I still had it as I sold it to another fellow audioholics member. Still awaiting for the 1018 to come out as I may get one. Talked to my Pioneer rep today and there is still no word on it. It was not even listed on the price guide he sent me. Not sure why, but Pioneer seems to be tight lipped on this one like it is some kind of secret or something. Anyways, glad you were able to get your 1015 going again. Next time, try CPR and see if that helps..........LOL!!!! :p:p Have a great weekend my friend.

Cheers,

Phil

Thanks, Phil. The 1015 is a nice unit. When it went silent, I started looking into the 1018. Two things that I'd want to replace but aren't on the 1018: (1) no switched outlet or 12V trigger, either of which I could use to turn on my amps, and (2) no THX surround modes. So, I started looking into the next model up, the Elite VSX-01TX...at least, I think that's the model number. Thing is, I like the white display on the 1015 and 1018 much better than the yellowish one on the Elite, so I was pretty disappointed that mine stopped working. And then...it turned on again. :)

Hey Adam, you don't think it is haunted do you.........LOL!!!! :p:p That would have to be kinda cool you know.:cool: Maybe even make a movie deal out of it with you being the star..........:D:D. Just kidding. Have you looked into Denon or Yamaha as far as new receivers are concerned?

Cheers,

Phil

I would get that checked out and not leave it powered up un-attended, you never know whats wrong and it may be a good idea to verify its not a fire hazzard.

Funny that you should say that, as my original idea for this thread involved an electronics version of Flatliners or the like. :)

As for Yamaha and Denon, I did consider them. I almost ordered the Yammy 663 from Amazon (I get free two-day shipping) to have it arrive today, but I don't really like the looks of it, and I wanted to do more research given that it doesn't have the THX surround mode that I've come to really like.

You make a good point, and I appreciate it. I tend to think that something inside locked up (a controller chip, perhaps) and that it needed to power down and discharge, it's just that I didn't leave it plugged in long enough after that to get it working. To all you electricians out there, I'm sure that sounds very stupid.

Flat-liners eh-oh that is too funny. :D:D In all seriousness though, it is always better to error on the side of caution. Be sure to get it checked out. No need for it to start a fire. Would hate to lose you my friend. Perhaps, some other members here may be able to chime in on that one.

Cheers,

Phil
