i have an opportunity to buy a complete JM Labs Mini Utopia consisting of four bookshelves (well a little larger then that, and heavier), center channel and subwoofer for around $7K. The retail on this system some years back was around $23K, and I had the opportunity sit down and listen and WOW. I am using will vincent tube amps to power the speakers (front, center) and a triode amp for the center, and the sub is self powered. I use a tube preamp and incredible cd transport. give me some input please

I'd suggest asking a moderator to move this to the 'Loudspeakers' section... -TD

The 23k retail price on that set up was way off base, just about every dealer selling them gave serious discounts on them but still for 7k is not a bad deal as long as they are in mint condition with all the factory packaging, alot of people dont realize the added value of having all the packing materials but it is important.

As for your questions about being able to drive the speakers with your vincent tube gear being that they are hybrid amps you shouldnt have any problems but to be sure please post the model#,i used to have a pair of vincent 100 watt monoblocks & to the best of my knowledge they were the least powerfull of the vincent amp line.

As for running a "triode" amp for your center more info is needed, what amp are you refering too & is it able to run in different mode's,tetrode, triode, pentode ect, wattage ratings will change if your amp is able to switch between different types on most amps.
