Issue with Video Signal.

Lets see if I can explain this.
My receiver does not have HDMI, so I am running HDMI from my Dish VIP722 right to the TV for video. I am also running HDMI from my blue ray right to the TV. I used macros on my URC to make all the commands. Everything works great and has been for months now. When I watch TV the video signal comes up as HDMI 2 on the TV, When I watch Blue Ray it is played as HDMI 1. It has worked flawlessly up until last weekend. It happened for the first time last weekend and then today.
We watched a blue ray last night and after it was done i turned it off. Because the last thing i did was watch a dvd last night the reciever was in dvd mode and the TV still on hdmi 1 when I turned it on today. I held down TV on URC remote to switch everything back to TV mode and the DVR turns, REceiver goes into TV mode and TV turns to hdmi 2. However I can hear the audio from the Dish network but it says no signal on the TV for video.
The same exact thing happened to me last week after I was done watching blue ray and then turned on the TV the following morning.
HERES WHERE I AM STUMPED= Both times I held down the Power button on my VIP 722 for a hard reboot and after the dish reciever finished booting the video signal was back and running with no problems.
Any thoughts? I guess after i finish watching blue ray i should try going back to TV mode to see if that helps.
right now i can switch back and forth between hdmi 1 and 2 with no problems as I am typing but cant figure out if its the VIP 722.

Sounds like a simple timing issue. With HDMI, you have the initial exchange of keys (the so-called 'handshake') and I suspect that as soon as the DVR turns on it attempts to make that handshake but the TV has not yet changed its input to the HDMI in that the DVR is connected to and gets no response.

You could change the steps of the macro so that the TV input change occurs first (and is thus waiting for contact from the device connected to it), then the DVR, then finally the receiver input change. You may even need a short pause after the TV input change.

It sounds like you are using a macro config similar to what I've described before. If so, you might want to always revert to the 'home' state from which you start everything before changing to a different state.

Is it safe to assume you hold the button down because that's how you activate a macro? You didn't post the model of the remote but it would seem like an MX-350, 500/550, 600/650, 700/750 or 800/850, right?

Is there a chance that the batteries are weak and the commands aren't as strong as they usually are?

it is a urc 50 but has nothing to do with the remote. batteries are brand new. Also even when the video signal is unavailable I go into the hdmi source and change it manually to hdmi 2 without using a macro and still cant get a signal for dvr.

Ruh roh. Does sound like an issue with the STB then. I am going to TRY to reread your post, but next time, if possible, can you make it simpler, better paragraphed, and capitalize your "i's"? Thanks.

OK. I think I understood after a good amount of effort.

Sometimes an STB will look only once for the handshake. Essentially, exactly what MDS said. Did you understand what he said?

Otherwise, if you want to forgo that hassle, perhaps just use the component connections. They should* look just as good (though hdmi vs component seems to be vary from stb to stb).
