Is this worth it???

Hi, I just bought a Yamaha HTR-5860 for $320. I was wondering if this receiver is any good. I was actually looking to buy an Onkyo 801, but the cheapest I found it for was around $600. I know the Yamaha isn't as good as the Onkyo, but for $320, is it worth keeping? Would I be better off saving up a little more and getting a different receiver? I'll be using Athena F1 for fronts and C1 for center with the receiver. Any opinion is appreciated. Thanks.

That's a pretty open ended question. In the sub $500 price range the 5860 is one of the best, IMO. It will easily power those Athenas and sound very good while doing it.
It really depends what you want the reciever to do for you. The more money you are willing to pay the more power, and more importantly, the more features you get.
For a relatively simple HT system the 5860 will lack very little.

I have the 5760 matched with the Athena B1's and it sounds great. The F1 is easily driven (92dB), I'm not sure the 60 can do the job. Try it out and if you're not happy, and you want to stick with yamaha go with the 5790 or 5890. Great receiver though .

That's a great price for a very nice unit. With those speakers, I don't think you really need to upgrade to the 5790/5890 unless you have a huge great room and will be playing these Athena's at reference levels for extended periods of time.

Sorry for the late reply, I actually bought this at Bestbuy. It was an open box and I also had a 30% off open box coupon which brought it down to $320.
