Is this the reason my marantz is flashing red standby?

I have a marantz sr7001 and Was watching a movie and it went into stand by. Light flashes quickly and will other power on.

I tried the reset procedures of holding 7.1, pure audio and clear. That won't work. Looks like these capacitors are leaking....

Any help.would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Those are the main power supply smoothing caps and they are shot. That is a serious problem and will stop the unit powering up.

I find it hard to believe there were not symptoms before failure to power on, such as sudden unexplained pops.

Anyhow the real question is whether there is further damage to the unit due to failure of smoothing.

The correct procedure is to change the caps, and bring the unit up slowly watching power supply voltages and monitoring the line voltages on an o-scope as it comes up.

If you are lucky this will just stop at the caps, and the unit will function again after replacement.

If you are not used to this be careful as power supply caps hold dangerous voltages after power is removed. Usually there is a bleeder resistor that slowly drains the power after the power is turned off.

Are you contemplating fixing this yourself? If not then with the age of the receiver you probably are better off looking at replacement, if you have to send it to a service center to have ti fixed.

At that age you could be up against parts no longer available. There is no telling what other parts may be damaged if any. A service center will not be able to tell this until the power supply is repaired. So if you have it serviced you risk a significant bill and a useless boat anchor at the end of it.

If you you want to replace the caps yourself, and see if the unit functions, then you will just be out the cost of the caps, if the unit does not function. That would be worth the gamble.

I think one pair of the Darlington transitors of one channel in the amp assembly is dead short i have attened many cases and was successful

Resetting won't help try to locate one pair of Darlington transitors dead shorted in one of the channels in the amp assembly hope this will solve your issue i had success many times.

What Darlington transistors?

How to you locate something like that without a service manual?

In any event you can see the smoothing caps are shot.

You deserve the highest troll alert!

Thanks guys! Sans that troll.

Tlsguy, what are my options? Is there any other damage that can be done when the smoothing caps go? What would cause that? Oddly enough this happened after our power was out for an hour.

Is it....maybe time to move on to a new av?

Those caps had obviously been failing for some time. The power problems may have given them the final push, or made the unit more vulnerable to a power surge.

Those caps failing would have reduced their efficacy and so the DC voltages could have become rough, especially at higher power levels, and would have reduced the amps power reserve.

It is certainly possible that there could be further damage. On the other hand the protections circuits might have prevented that, or limited in scope.

At a guess I would say that more likely than not the damage extends beyond the caps.

If you are not able, and do not have the facilities to service that receiver, then I would send it to the recycling center. I don't think the unit is worth a trip to a service center.

Your other option is to put it up in eBay parts or repair and see what bids you get.

I'm very reluctant to encourage home service of equipment, especially when it involves power circuits unless the poster has experience or training in these matters. If they have they are unlikely to make these sort of posts, and just proceed to sort the problem out. This is obviously for reasons of personal safety.
