Is this a right combination?

I'm thinking of getting a new set of A/V receiver and a surround sound system since my current one is basically crap.

I'm getting a Denon AVR-2807 and a Mirage NANOSAT SYSTEM - Home theater speaker system, here're the pics:

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000FBPH2K.01-AIWHEFKG4HT6N._SCLZZZZZZZ_V54816158_.jpg

do these two hardwares works well together?

Note that I'm living in an apartment so I can't raise volume to the degree that you guys do in houses. So my priority is to enjoy as much surround sound as possible in a reasonable volume.

My HDTV is Sony KDF-60XS955 LCD rear-projection in case anyone's interested

~thanks for your assisstance~

You should be just fine. Receivers work with any speakers (as long as they can power them). :)

~thanks~

If it's not too bothersome, how would you evaluate the performance of the above receiver and speaker system with regard to their price range?

I would suggest that a 1706 would drive Mirage speakers equally well as the 2807. If you want the best sound for your budget spend more on the speakers and less on the receiver.

The 2807 can do justice to bigger, better speakers and might be overkill for that system.

The 1706 and the Nano's will make a great, well balanced starter system from which you can grow. While it (the 2807) will work very well with those Nano's, you will most likely be just as happy* with a lesser receiver for them (the Nano's). That little sub with the Nano system is it's Achilles heel and no receiver can improve on that.

You might consider the smaller receiver, those Nano's and putting the saved $$ in the kitty for a bigger, better sub a few months down the road. Now, MNSHO, THAT would be a decent upgrade path.

*Assuming there are no needed "features" the 2807 has thatthe 1706 lacks.

thanks guys for your suggestions. I really appreciate your inputs here :)

Again I just want to mention that I cannot raise volume above certain level in my apartment and I want to make sure I can enjoy surround sound effect as much as possible at mid-volume settings.

I just checked 1706 and from my perspectives it has lesser inputs available which is one of the reasons that I wanted a better receiver in the first place. Connectivity has been one of my concerns because I'm a major gamer that I need to have all the inputs available for my PS2, GC, Xbox360, and at the end of the year, the PS3 and Wii.

I'm also getting the impression that aside from receiver suggestions you guys seem not really a big fan on Mirage speakers. Is there a better alternative at similar price range (say, $700 to $1000)? I weight design as much as quality, and Mirage is my top choice so far. But hey if there's a better choice please let me know.

Thanks again for all your future assisstances.;)

Shadow if you can really do $1000 for your speakers then I'd give some series consideration to the Klipsch rf-52's rc-52 and rs-42. I think you'd be much more please in the long run....In fact I know you would.....since you're in an apartment you really dont want to have to worry about low frequency bass disturbing your neighbors and the 52's will drive surprisingly low for their size and they're extremely efficient. Here's a link where you can buty the set:

I'd consider saving an extra month if you have to...it would be worth it in the long run. Let us know wha you decide!:)

i havent heard the lower end klipsh, but ive heard people tend to either like them or not like them at all.

you can get a bic acoustitech 5.1 system for about that price, or maybe the svs bookshelf speakers for 600 plus a pb 10 sub for 450 that will push you a little over budget.

thank you for your kindly input. Although I'm sure the above mentioned Klipsch package delivers exceptional surround sound experience (look at the power:eek:) , however I'm afraid I'm going to have to turn this one down not because of its price, but because I may not have enough space to put it (especially the floor stand side speakers) :(

I'm sorry that I forgot to mention this but, size also play an important factor here.

But on the other hand, if I get a Kilpsche center speaker since it's not so big, and maybe there're some compact sized Klipsch side and back speakers that aren't so large, and perform better than Mirage ones at the same price range, please let me know:)

I was thinking a combination of Denon 2807, Klipsch RC-52, maybe 4 or 5 mirage nanosats side and back speakers (or compact size Kilpsch ones), what do you guys think about that?

Again, thanks for all your helps~

Bookshelf speakers

Are bookshelf speakers too big?
If not, you have plenty of options including Axiom, PSB, Paradim, and Klipsch in your price range. SVS and Onix (av123.com) also have speaker sub packages under $1K. They would work great at lower levels in the apt. and you could crank up the volume if you moved to a house.

Do klipsch RSX-5 speakers works well?

It's the smallest I can find from their product line

klipsh has a unique sound because of their horn tweeters, bic has horns as well,

but it all depends on if you like that sort of sound. you should also look into axiom, psb, svs, and paradigm for bookshelf systems .. they are all pretty small and sound good.

i have only heard the axiom, and paradigm from those 4 but they sound pretty good.

How about 4 Paradigm Atoms, the appropriate matching center and a 10" Hsu or SVS sub. The Atoms are compact and great sounding IMO and this could come in at around a grand.

The Omni's are fine speakers but, as with all things, they have their limitations, particularly ehen talking about a sub that size. Acknowledging a limitation does not mean a blanket disaproval, simply an acceptance of reality.

The satellites are most likely more than up to the task. Actually, I've heard 'em in a properly set up system and was quite imopressed, particularly considering their size. I've also read some fine things about them. Again, in the case of your chosen set, I would have to say that the woofer is a bit small. Other than that, I'd say you'e good to go. ...and I tried to imply this earlier.

well I'm just going to play it safe in case the sub gets too loud or make too much vibrates which could potentially disturb my neighbors.

I guess it's settled then, klipsch RC-52, 2 RSX-5s for left and right, and 2 nanosats for the back.

Yeah...again I dont know how you can have a sub in an apartment...its instant complaints at any real volume levels! You've got to have at least a duplex for subs:)

yea I just place my current sub above the floor with a cart, that'll reduce some vibrates and noise
