Is this a good buy?

Is the Yamaha RX-V557 Reciever with the Yamaha NS-P436 speakers for $599.00 Total a good buy? Or is the Onkyo HT-S780 for $499.00 a better buy? Any help is appreciated!

Since both packages are more or less equivalent, I recommend going for the Onkyo since it is slightly cheaper.

My dad had the Onkyo, it really is a good system for a HTIB. He has been very pleased with it.

The receiver has component switching, but not upconversion.
I don't know about the HDTV, it does not explicitly state it in the manual, but I assume it would pass an HDTV signal through.
