Is there such thing as a quality WIRELESS subwoofer?

Hi, newbie here... I searched the topic and haven't found anything on this really, but you've got lots of good info elsewhere (and you've all helped me spend some serious money on other stuff- or plan to).

Here's the deal:
Wife and I have purchased a new apartment and are giving each other a nice theater set up which also needs to sound great with music (I have a seriously large vinyl collection). Our listening area will not have any couches or soft chairs - it will be a half Japanese style room, with some cushions. Room size is about 19 by 12. We have chosen a swivel mounted 37 inch Panasonic VIERA TC-L37S1 37" 1080p LCD TV, am trying to find a Pioneer 1018 amp (or will go with a 1019), and Orb Speakers (serious WAF factor). I am trying to decide between getting the Orb subwoofer... or something wireless, because the room layout will be tricky. Floor to ceiling glass windows, some hard stone surfaces, and I expect the sound to bounce around. I am concerned that correct subwoofer placement could lead to WAF, and a wireless may be the way to go, if they work.

My questions... can I get one for $300, is it worth it, and what should I be careful of? This one "sounds" okay ... but I haven't heard it... Boston Acoustics Horizon Series HPS-8Wi 8-Inch.

Matty,

Welcome to the forum!! Now as to your question you are really limited in your price range. I have not heard of any dedicated sub that is 'wireless' that will provide acceptable performance....but then acceptable is a subjective evaluation depending on the listener. You are very limited in the $300 price range to find even a conventional sub that will provide quality performance...

For $300, this might be one of your only options from parts express, that might provide a decent level of performance. Yet I have not read or have any knowledge of this particular model, with the exception that these kits have a reputation for being a fairly good value:

http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=300-770

This kit is $320 and you are still left without it being wireless. The only wireless system that I have read about here on the forum that is supposed to work well is from the company Soundcast---it is there SubCast system and this is another $170 on top of the sub....so now you are up to $500:

My advice would be, up your budget to $500-600 if you can swing it, and live with a sub that is hard-wired for a bit. And then down the road you can purchase the SubCast for a more wife-acceptable placement option. It is more important that you buy a quality sub up-front and add the wireless capability to it later---than skimping on performance for 'wireless' function....IMO...

The HSU 15" sub is, or can be wireless, but it's out of your price range. But if you could afford it, it would be a very nice piece of gear.

I got beat to it, the ULS 15 is only decent wireless sub that I know of but it's a grand out of your range. It is a beautiful piece though.

Technically no. There has to be some wire inside of it. :)

If the price is not an issue the ULS-15 will be an outstanding subwoofer with wireless operation for you...
