Is there such a thing as DVD-A?

I have been looking all over town for DVD-A disks. All I can find are DVD-V disks of bands with stills or moving pictures and 5.1 surround encoded audio. But what is a DVD-A disk? I was under the impression it was an audio only recording. Played like a CD. Tracks, etc. I would not need the TV on to navigate it. Someone please clear this up for me.

If you ever browsed a DVD, you would know there are two standard directories. VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS. I have never seen any content in the AUDIO_TS directory. I am assuming this would make it a DVD-A disk if I ever find one.

Thanks.

Most DVD-As do have video content (not all), though the DVD-A tracks may not always accompany video. Often, the video is on the DVD-V portion of the disc while the DVD-A tracks are separate. Shouldn't be hard to track down at just about any music store. Even Best Buy (Future Shop?) should have some.

When I went to one of the bigger video shops and looked in their DVD-AUDIO section all I found were DVD-VIDEO disks. And the electronics outlets don't have anything either. I found a place on the net that sells them. I was thinking of getting the Eagles - Hotel California DVD-A. :D I like that song. Not too fond of their other works though. :(

The audio on the HFO concert DVD is terrific. Great dynamic range. The best I have heard. I can not speak to the DVD audio only version though since I have not heard it. It might be a worth while DVD audio test disk since we know the audio content is from known good source. FWIW on the concert DVD Hotel California is the opening song and is terrific.

My favorite DVD-Audio disc is Steely Dan's "Gaucho" It has a video display of the playlist and lyrics. The DVD-As that I have all have stills accompanying the audio tracks. These are not the same thing as DVD concert videos, as these are normally recorded with Dolby Digital or DTS.
