ok, ive noticed that when i disable the center channel on my receiver i can really feel the bass from my sansui's, but i still want to have my center channel. so is there any way i can have my center channel on and still be able to get all of that sound from my sansui's?

If your bass is better when the center channel speaker is off, you need to check the polarity and distance settings in the receiver. You probably have phase cancellation occurring and it's affecting the bass drastically.

Set the center speaker to "small" in the speaker assignment.

What is phase cancellaton? And when I have the center speaker on, it is almost like my fronts are turned off.

It would help to have some idea what frequencies you are referring to as Bass.

It seems likely that the frequencies in question are ones the center is trying to reproduce. If the center is set to "small", then they are frequencies above the crossover point. You can try moving up the crossover, but that only goes to (usually) 120Hz. So if we are discussing a low man's voice (>350Hz) that won't help.

Either they are being canceled, or the center is just doing a poor job.

Option 1: sounds >120Hz with poor center. nothing to do but shut off or replace the center. (you could try center channel EQ if it's available)

Option 2: Sounds >120Hz with cancellation from R/L speakers. You'll need to adjust placement (likely farther apart). Or, again, run sans center.

Another possibility is that we are discussing sounds below the crossover point and that the sub simply isn't doing it's job.

Option 3: Insufficient Sub. Replace the sub or shut it off (since you like the sound of the Sansui) and make sure your AVR is able to route LFE to "large" speakers.

There may be more. That's off the top of my head.

Are we talking about movies or stereo music being processed into multi-channel format? It might have something to do with which sound field processing is being used.

What center speaker are you using?

That's interesting because it has nothing to do with it. PLIIx can convert any 2 channel analog or digital signal and DD 5.1 to 7.1, whereas PLII can only convert 2 channels to 5.1. The center is active in both configurations.

If you want to lessen the role of the center channel, use PLIIx Music mode and adjust the center width control to send more of the center channel to the left and right front speakers.
