Is there a way to hook-up ARC AV receiver to a tv made prior to ARC technology?

Good evening all,

I am a complete newbie to this whole AV world and have a question regarding the ARC HDMI technology. I am thinking of buying a Yamaha RX-V373 AV receiver. My only problem is that my Sony 60XSRD rear projection tv was made well before the ARC technology.

Is there a way to make the 2 systems compatible and sound decent? If not, any suggestion on a receiver under $300 that would be more compatible with my current system? I purchased and installed Energy Take 5.1 speakers, but my current receiver (cheap Sony HTIB) is not compatible with the subwoofer and I am stuck using my old HTIB subwoofer with the Energy speakers. The speakers put out more bass than my subwoofer. Sad. I appreciate any assistance and guidance you can provide.

Thanks

The system will still be "compatible".. you just won't be able to use the easy hookup features ARC provides. You can still connect your sources directly to the receiver and then output from the receiver to the TV. No loss in quality anywhere.

Thanks for the help. I have finally decided which receiver to get. Have a good night.
