is there a difference between home speaker wire and car speaker wire?

i can get a good deal on 10GA car speaker wire from a friend and wanted to know if there is a difference between speaker wire made for car audio use and wire made for home use?

it is some blue wire if that makes difference

Yes. Car wire is for 4ohm. Home wire is for 8ohm. :D

same stuff. the car stuff may actually be a little more rugged to stand up to the not-so-great car environment, but that's it. i used home wire in my car. just go with what you have or the cheapest.

The difference is....

the label on the package. Yes, seriously.

There may be a "high end" cable manufacturer that makes changes in the external sheath to compensate for heat in car applications. Most likely, they just change the color of the sheath.

But no, if you are sure you are getting a good deal, about $.30/ft, then you should get that :)

Aside from some being chemical/heat resistant, none whatsoever.

However you can often get 12-18ga car cable for less than you can get at your local audio/electronics shop. Go figure.

You cannot use blue wire. You must use red wire. or is that a blue pill vs red pill?
