Is there a difference between bookshelf speakers and home theater speakers?

I know this is the biggest beginner question in history. I'm just curious. I have just wondered my local stores sell them in different areas of the store. The ones they merchandise as bookshelf speakers seem to have more reviews from people using them for music and the home theater speakers seem to have more reviews from people using them as rear channel speakers for home theaters.

The reason I'm asking is because there are a pair of home theater speakers that I am absolutely in love with and I want to use them with my Teac amp to use as high end computer speakers. They are Polk RTI A1.

Nah.

To a marketing professional there may be a difference, but for all practical purposes, a loudspeaker is a loudspeaker.

Personally, if I saw something specifically marketed as an HT speaker, I would assume it is lower quality.

OTOH, if a speaker does well with music, it will also be great for HT.

... and if its labeled an HT speaker and you think its great, who cares what I think.
