Is there a benefit of using HDMI out, if I only have Compoenent in?

I'm getting a new HDTV and have a Yamaha RX-V1600 receiver. If my sources are s-video from the sattelite receiver, and component video from the dvd player, would I benefit from using hdmi out on the receiver instead of component?

HDMI Output on Yamaha 1600

No benefit with your current configuration.
You will see the same quality of signal with a component video or HDMI connection from the receiver. If you plan to upgrade your cable box or DVD to an HDMI connection in the future, then you will need HDMI from the receiver to the TV.

Does anyone know if the RX-V1600's onscreen display works over HDMI the same as it does over component video?

GR! wow I just checked the 1600. It doesn't upscale 480 to 1080 as I was thought it's the same with 2600 with a little less power, but it is not! Anyway JP was right. My experience with the 2600 is working really great in term of upscaling. If sending s-video from satellite receiver to RX-V2600 and HDMI out to TV , then you get upscaling quality as close as HD rather than the 480 mode in regular tv channel. My HD 65" sony display at the best quality as I've ever seen at 1080. Also, the quality color of GUI screen much nicer too as you press the button. In addtion with audio, I'm just crazy about this 2600 that really help my video setup in perfection for my current gears.

I'm aware that my receiver only upconverts, not upscales, I just want to know if all my on screen displays work the same over HDMI as they do over component video. My new samsung DLP (being shipped right now) has a Faroudja scaler in it, which I belive is the same type of scaler used in the 2600, so that is why I didn't opt to get the more expensive receiver.
