Is the Pioneer DV-578a too cheap?

I bought the Pioneer 578a in August. I thought at the time that the value of this player could not be overlooked. After a couple of problems I have had with this particular DVD player I felt it was necessary to post some problems I have had with this unit.

The first player I bought was returned the next day and exchanged for another one. Something was wrong with the digital output. It would not send a Dolby Digital 5.1 signal to my receiver, with either optical or coaxial digital connections. (I install a lot of Pioneer DVD players at work so I am familiar with the set-up process.)

The second player worked fine until about a week ago. Now on random occations the audio will cut out for approx. 1 sec at about a 5 second interval. The only remedy I have found to fix this is to unplug the player from the AC for about 10 to 15 minutes. (Which fixes the problem for a short time, usually a day or so) This problem is constant no matter what type of disc I play. (DVD, DVD-A, SACD, CD)

The reason I am starting this thread is to find out if anyone else is having any problems with their Pioneer? I am realistic and can except the fact that every once and a while you will come across a lemon. But, to get two in a row the quality becomes a bit suspect in my opinion. Perhaps, Pioneer has cut one too many corners with this machine. Which leaves me with this question? Is the value really worth the hassle?
