room size is 18feet length and 16 feet breadth, totally acoustic treated

currently using a velodyne CHT12R sub (which is doing a very fine job)

was looking at the supercube reference (new) but for the same price
(2000$ & he is open for slight discounts)) came across the def tech trinity which is used for about a year

going by the specs n reviews it looks like a monstorous sub

if i want to buy a new trinity here in india it wud cost me more than 4000$

usage is 50-50 music n movies

set up includes onkyo 875 avr
vincent SP331MK power amp (driving the front L /R )
philips LX52 BDP
centre n L/R sorrounds driven by two CarverTFM35X power amps
velodyne cht12r sub (to be replaced `by def tech trinity ?? )
marantz sa11s1 sacd
vincent SA31MK pre
chord rumor spkr wires, and chord chameleon ICs
Jamo C809 spkr pack
optoma HD 65 projector with 120" grandview screen

kindly give your opinion on the def tech trinity before i buy, budget is abt 2000$ for which i will get the supercupe reference(new) but for the same price i cud lay my hands on the slightly used trinity

I'd rather have the Trinity. The supercube reference does not look bad, but I think the Trinity will have much greater output, and still sound great.

got the trinity delivered , its one hell of a sub:p , really needed 3 people to move it around and set it up

to sum it up in one word its AWESOME for both music and HT

its a really huge sub , u cud chk out the size when compared to the jamo C809s which are really big , but in front of the trinity they look shadowed
some pics here ,
but have encountered a problem here , the sub sounds fantastic but tremendous vibrations are felt downstairs:eek: in the first and ground floor ,as my ht is on the second floor , need to do something here , any recommendations?

You generally get more bang-for-buck out of ID subs, but the DT Trinity is very musical and is a good sub overall. Definitely post some pics and impressions :)

I agree get a subdude or Great Gramma from Aurolux, best thing to do to decouple the sub. I have two and they work great.

What makes a sub more or less musical? Personally it seems to me a sub either has good deep sounds or it doesn't. If it has a good deep sound it should be good for both movies and music.

In my experience it is boxes that vibrate and noisy ports that add in unwanted noise that can sound off on music. The settings on the sub and it's placement in the room dictate if it can blend nicely with the speakers. Almost any sub should be able to get a decent blend and not draw attention to itself if it's set up and placed properly. EQ can help alot too. A room mode can add gain to a certain frequency, giving it a "boomy" sound because that frequency will play louder and decay slower. It will overpower and intrude upon other frequencies that are not aided by room gain. That can make music sound "muddy", or "boomy". It makes it harder to distinguish the change in frequencies as the song plays.
