I am building my first home theatre and need a suggestion. I liked the Yamaha speakers NS-FP9500 and can get them for $330 including shipping from eTronics. I also saw a slim Onkyo receiver TX-LR552 at 6ave.com for $198, but wondering if the two would be compatible to give a good sound. I had no way to testing them together as no shop had both of them.

The small size of Onkyo TX-LR552 attracted me a lot!

Can anyone suggest me if Onkyo would be a good receiver for these Yamaha speakers? The two together will suit my budget, if they can work together.

That is a really good price for the 552, I think it retails for around $400. Your speakers would sound pretty nice with it. One problem though, is the lack of inputs on the 552. It only has one coax and 2 optical, it also doesn't have any front inputs like many of the others in a comparable class. If you're like me you need a little more flexibility. But I understand that a lot of people just hook up their DVD/CD player and maybe their digital cable box and are all set, in which case the 552 will probably suit your needs. It is nice to have a receiver that's not as tall and bulky as most of the others as well.
