i only listen to music and have a SVS PB2000 sub with 2 Philharmonic bookshelves. Is that enough or would 2 be better? Space IS an issue.

The general consensus here is gonna be 2 is always best. I only have one and I even agree which is why I want to add a second sub.

Properly placed duals will help to smooth out the low end by reducing standing waves. When it comes to music, smooth is a good thing imho. :):):)

2 are better. Even two PB1000s are better than 1 PB2000

Do you listen to music with deep bass? If not, switch to sealed subs. Most music does not dig below 40 Hz, and a ported sub will not have much of an advantage over a sealed sub in that range. Otherwise go get a PC-2000 subwoofer, that is tailor-made for people who want deep bass but have space issues.

How big is your room? You worried about multiple seating positions? Have you measured response? Might be able to do fine with one....

That's what I was thinking. If space is an issue, makes me think small room. 1 good sub can do it. I've always preferred 2 though.

If the space is a 'general purpose' room (living / bedroom with a AV system, sofa, furniture, etc.), there may not be enough room for 2 or more subs. My 505 sq. ft. studio apt. is divided into a 'office/sleeping' area and 'living room TV' area. I've only room for 2 compact subs. I don't even have room for one big great sub, unless I get rid of a lot of furniture. :)
