Is my receiver powerful enough?

I have a Yamaha rxv995 and my main speakers are Paradigm studio 60's. I read somewhere that the rxv995 is not powerful enough to get the best out of the studio 60's. Does anyone know if this it true and if so what can I do about it?

What's the power out on the receiver, speaker sensitivity and speaker impedance?

The minimum RMS output power is 100watts per channel. As far as the sensitivity and impedance goes, I looked in my manual and it was described as follows 100W/8 ohms. Then it went on to say CD/tape/dvd/tvdbs/vcr - 150 mV/47 k-ohms

Thank you very much for the reply

if it doesn't clip, and it doesn't overheat, at whatever volume you are comfortable with, then it's powerful enough.

A better receiver *might* bring out better sound...it's not a matter of power but how accurate its output is, and whether it can deliver that output to your Studio 60's. So a good receiver like a Rotel that's rated lower in power may actually sound better than a more powerful Yamaha.

But in terms of power, you have enough power if the receiver isn't overheating or distorting when you play it at your normal listening levels.

Giacomo,

100 watts will do just fine for this speaker. Rated sensitivity is 88 db at 8 ohms. I think you were looking at the amp measurements.

This about sums it up.
