Hi all,
As you may be able to tell, I am brand new to the forum. I've been searching around for a while, but haven't found an answer to my question.

My Current Setup:
- Amp: Sony STR-DE695
- Fronts: Boston VR1's
- Center: Boston VRC

My question is simple, is my amp enough power to take care of my fronts and center speaker? I would like to add a 8" - 10" subwoofer, will it power that enough?

Also, (I know wrong forum, so I will post here and in sub forum) what sub would pair well with my setup.

Thanks for the help.

OffRoad, welcome to the forum. If you get yourself a powered sub (one that has a built-in amp), then the receiver won't have to supply any power to the sub. Those are very common these days.

Thanks for the reply and the welcome Adam.

Two follow-up questions though:

1) What brand subs do you recommend for my room that is 21L x 14W

2) Is my amp underpowered for my speakers? VR1's and VRC Center?

1) SVS and HSU are the leading candidates. Get 10" as that's a good sized room.

2) No. Those speakers are easy to drive (8 Ohm) and ridiculously high efficiency (93dB/1 watt/1 meter). They could be easily driven by just about anything. That said, you won't find much love for Sony products around boards like this where people know better.

While Sony is not the favorite among quality audio products it will power those speakers fine to possibly irritating levels.:D

Welcome to another Boston fan!

I concur with SVS and Hsu. My advice is to email SVS and have them size a sub for your room. Their customer service is first rate. They will need the cubic feet of the room and any spaces that open into the room. A diagram with dimensions will help a lot.

Oh and while looking at their 10" subs take a peek at their 12" subs as well. :D
