That's pretty upsetting, I wonder what happened. It's always sad to see a good company close shop.

Someone did say recently in a thread regarding a sub that it didn't look like they would be around much longer, so I would not be surprised if they were gone.

I just put my M&K in the shop for repairs, I really hope they are just changing their operation. "sniffles":(

No, that isn't what I read. The guy said they were having major difficulties financially, so I would say there is a good chance they are no longer with us. I'd guess getting your sub back from service won't be an issue.

My heart has sank, I really feel puke like now.:( I blame SVS!

Maybe they are just taking a breather. God I hope that is what it is.

M&K is known for their THX speakers more than their subs IMO, so SVS has nothing to do with it :)

The website is still up, dont know what that means.

This certainly is a shame, the first real HT I ever heard had M&K subs and it was amazing.

100" Tube Mitsubishi, Laser disc...state of the art!

I will never forget the shear raw power they put out.

Their speakers and subs are incredibly accurate and revealing. Their subs went for sound quality and not output.

Did you read what the website says?
As of Thursday, Feb 22, the M&K Factory is closed.

That's weird - they are advertising new 2007 subs and then they close? I'd like to know more as well.

I was looking seriously considering Xenon surrounds....

as my next purchase with a 5.1 receiver.

Best wishes for M&K and their employees.

Closing a factory doesn't necessarily mean that the company is out of business. Many American companies found long ago that making products overseas is much more profitable.

I read in "Businessweekly" recently that Westinghouse has only 120 employees and no factory in the US. Vizio has 55 employees and no factory in the US either. Vizio did 700 mil of business last year. Both hire manufacturers in Taiwan to build their tvs.

It wouldn't surprise me if M&K closed their US factory for this reason.

M&K's biggest "problem" which is also why a lot of people buy them, is their QA process. Every speaker that leaves the factory is listened to before it goes out. They could be much more profitable by testing a ratio of the speakers like most companies do. It takes a lot of time to do it the way they do it, and slows their output.

Personally, i absolutely love my M&K's. I hope they're not going out of business, and find it hard to believe, since they've just introduced a new line of subs, and recently new 750's and other popular speakers. Not to mention if they were going out of business, i'd think the online store would have some closeout sale. I saw them post on the site about a month ago that one of their sales (the valentines sale or the new years one) generated huge demand. So i'm hoping they're just moving their factory.

Their Online store was closed last time I checked. It had the default, website is under repair sign on it.

HOLY CRAP! I don't think they are going out of business just yet. They are making changes on the format of the site. I don't know why they would waste time doing that if they were going out of business.

You know, maybe they just had a private sale. Someone might have purchased M&K and is moving the operation to a more cost effective location as David said, that might be a possibility.
