Is it time to upgrade?

I've had the p6-pr's from the speaker company for a little less than a year now, and I feel disappointed w/ their performance to the point where I want to upgrade. I bought em for $80 when tSC first started, and with all the deals around, it just makes it hard to stay w/ these. Could it possibly be the sub as well (tSC asw-8''), that masks some of the midrange that I'm not hearing?

Possibilities???

Start speaker auditioning. I don't mean listening to speakers worth a couple hundred but rather listening to as many speakers as humanly possible. Listen to some $10-$15K speakers if you can. Listen to some for a few hundred dollars and everything in between. Eventually, you will develop preferences in what you hear. You will find the qualities you like in speakers within your price range, whatever it may be when you're ready to pull the trigger.

I think what you don't want to do is to simply buy blindly over the internet again. Take your time and listen, listen, listen.

Yep. Very good advice. Audition, Audition, Audition. It's a must when speaker shopping.

Similar sounding speakers can be found at very different price-points. Little details that an audiophile can hear may mean nothing at all to you. Once you find the sound that you like, there is a very good chance you will remain loyal to the brand. There is no doubt you will feel much better about the end result.

Excellent advice as usual from Davemcc :)

Audioholics can give you some brands they like that are very good choice to consider, but it is better to listen yourself with your favorite music in a setup similiar to the size of your home theater.

I should mention this too because it may not be the speakers' fault for the loss in midrange. First of all, the area where I listen is somewhat odd, think of it as square missing the left side. This is because the left side is an open livingroom, where non of the listening is done. The dimensions would be 7 width x 8 length x 9 height. The speakers face a wall that is 8 ft in front of them, which is pretty darn close. Also, i notice that when I walk farther from the speakers, their midrange improves. What could this mean, also be advised to know that the speakers are 4 ft apart, and I listen from 8 ft away. Thanks for all your help.

If you can, I would recommend the main speakers be on the wall facing the open room. Make your listening position be the division between the open rooms, or close to it. Start with the speakers being straight. Then, use very slight toe-in listening. Stop toe-in when the mid-range is most pleasing at the listening position.

Pickup some Behringer 2031p's.

They are a huge step up and will give you a good start in quality speakers.

This is what I would do too. AUDITION all!!
