Is it the t.v.or sat.?

Hi. I have researched for 6 or 7 months, and decided to buy a J.V.C. d-ila 1080 56" t.v. I also got rid of my cable in favor of satelite, and got an Oppo d.v.d player. My concern is a lip sinc. thing. The pic. is great but this lip/sound thing is killing me. When I'm on sat., I quite often see lip and then hear sound. I don't think this happens with D.V.D.'s, although I'm not positive, so do you think it's the T.V., or the satelite link that's bugging me? Can I adjust somethig to correct this? B.T.W. I haven't gotten a surround system yet, so it can't be speaker lag . Thanks.

In my experience it is almost always the HD transmission. Not necessarily even your box, it could be originating at the source with a lousy encode. I see this sometimes on some HD channels I watch. Lip sync will suck, but then I change to a different channel (HD or SD) and it is fine. Go back, and it is bad.

Check for consistenc across channels. If it is consistent, then I would be more apt to believe it is the display - but that is not at all likely, especially if your DVD player does not have the same issue.

Thanx for your reply, bud. I kinda thought the same thing, I just wanted someone else to back me up! I will look for those consistencies, but I'm sure you're right. Do you think these sat. providers will come up with a fix, or do I have to live with this forever?

Hey dusty 50, I have Rogers Cable and a Sony 50" RPLCD tv and I have the same problem. HD CBS and ABC tend to be bad with lip sync, even SD channels are bad. Its not all the time though.

I have the same problem, intermittently, with Dish Network. I tried adjusting the delay with my receiver, but it just got worse. It comes and goes no matter what I do...I'm pretty sure its the broadcast.

I just spoke to a friend who has dish with a high end Pioneer plasma and a newer Pioneer receiver and he can only adjust the lip sync the opposite way. It's driving him nuts as well. It sounds like it's a dish network issue to me. I would call dish and complain high and low, seeing how they lock you guys into these long contracts. The dish receiver should have some type of delay/forward sync for picture AND sound since AVR's can only take the sync in one direction.

It can be a combnation of both.

But most likely a problem with MPG2(or MPG4) stream.
I did a large installation 3 years ago with a 5400ansi lumen upscalling projector.
Very nice projector, but the upscalling process introduced a 50ms delay in the video. I had to install a digital audio delay of 50ms to get the video and audio back in sync. John

I also get that lip sink problem every now and then on CBS and Fox, I think its the signal not your tv.
