Is it overkill to hook B&W DM600 series to a Yamaha RX-V1400.

I am thinking about buying both items, a Yamaha RX-V1400, and the DM600s. Some people tell me that I should get something better to run DM600s. The setup of speakers are 603 s3 for my fronts, 601 s3 for my rears, and center rears, the LCR600 s3 for my center, and the ASW650 as my sub. Ultimately I just want to put together a good/great home theater for myself with the B&Ws.

I don't see any problem with the pairing. If you like what you hear, then get them. Personally I'd mate a B&W with a Rotel, not entirely because the brand is the official test amplifers for B&W speakers. But I've heard the pairing sound superb. Having said that, I think the B&W 600 series or any of their products aren't that choosy with regards amps, provided the impedances match, and the amp power sufficient to drive them.

With regards subs, I use the ASW600. And if you want an all-B&W set-up, the folks at our B&W outlet are raving at the diminutive ASW675 which they say is a lot better than any sub in the 600 line. Try auditioning them.

Far from overkill, I would say I have heard better speakers than the hyped B&W but if you like the sound, stick with it. The Yamaha is quite nautral so it complements lots of good speakers on the market like Paradigm, Axiom etc.
