Is it me or my sub? Just keeps popping and rumbling...

I've had my M&K sub - MS-125 II for about 10 years and for a while now it pops when it can't seem to handle the base, and it also rumbles uncontrollably whenever I try to adjust the nobs. Trying to figure out what's wrong, or if I just have the settings wrong.

I've plugged it into the same outlet as my other components as someone suggested that might help.

I have the low pass filter is on bypass and set to 125 based on suggestion. The bass level is set to -3dB.

How do I know if this sub is ready to retire or if I just need a fix?

Thanks.

Seriously, I have no life.
Look at the foam area around the cone- it's probably missing a lot of it. It can be repaired, though. If the woofer is on the face of the box, make sure it hasn't been making scraping sounds for a long time. That can damage the voice coil and cause shorts, which can take out the amp if it bypasses enough of the coil.

Also, push the cone. It should translate smoothly. If it does, the surround as mentioned by highfigh should take care of you.
If there is the sense of rubbing/scraping, you are in the market for a new sub!
