Today, I have purchased a Denon 3310. while doing bit of research post purchase, I found out that Denon is going to launch products (next gen) using HDMI 1.4. I paid about $900 for the reciever.

Having second thoughts with respect to, if I should have waited before getting a AVR. Comments / Thoughts on 1.4 ? The order has not shipped yet, so still have 24hrs to flip the coin.

Also what speakers would you suggest to go along with 3310 ? Would Bose Accoustimass 10 be a good fit. Since Tweeter went out of business, there have been no brick-and-mortar stores in some big cities where one can play with speakers. Hence have to depend for info online. Thanks for your input.

The Bose Acoustimass would be a terrible option IMO. There are so many better options for the money. You don't have a Best Buy with a Magnolia home theater room near you? There are also online options which allow you to have free shipping both ways on speakers to test in your home. One that I can think of off the top of my head is Aperion Audio.

What is it that attracted you to the bose speakers? Is it the size? Reputation? There's a thread here somewhere about the real measurements of those speakers, and they are truly horrendous. If you are looking for discreet looking speakers, I can personally recommend the Klipsch Quintet III or SL.

As for the receiver, the 3310 is a great piece of equipment with a lot of features. You just have to determine if you think the features on the newer receivers is really worth it. Will you be getting a 3D tv in the near future?

Some info that might be helpful in picking speakers would be what percentage of the time you listen to music vs watching movies, what your budget is, and the size of the room.

Thanks dkane360. I went to bestbuy to check out def. tech 800 but they said they dont carry high-end speakers. Guitar center is the only option left in Raleigh-Durham.

What caught my attention with Bose 10 was the speakers size and they sound OK in the store with its accoustimass module and Onkyo AVR. Also I needed speakers to go on wall as the pre-wiring is already in place. Since 3310 is lot better than onkyo they have in store, was expecting better experience. I saw lot of bashing up Bose, which could be true.

Agreed that new models come into market but I did not get why there are so frequent/hug price drops for mid-priced polk, klipsch, def tech, infinity speakers as they are considered to be better than Bose and bose does not drop any price for no holiday/season or even for the models that are 6/7 year old. Hence the dilemma. But I do believe there are comparable or better speakers out there than Bose. I went to def tech, there is pro 600, 800 and 1000.. kinda got more confused. Looks pretty much same experience with every other website I have been to. There are models so close, cant really tell with my limited knowledge which one to go with in a budget of < $1k.

Room dimension is 20W x 18D x 20H

I really dont know what the new AVR features are going to be but HDMI 1.4 is being touted to be the next thing on some sites. Also I think 3D tv is a joke IMO so am stuck to my sony XBR for good time. thanks for reading.

Bose doesn't drop their prices because they don't need to. People who buy bose usually have never heard of any other brands, or are not willing to give them a shot because they think bose is the best name in speakers. A quick demonstration of how the bose speakers are poor quality is just by asking a bose employee about frequency response charts, or anything about the real acoustics behind their speakers. All they will say is that the numbers don't matter, and that they mean nothing. Even a brief introduction to the science of speakers will show that truthful specs actually matter.

Personally, I could care less about 3D too. It gives me a headache, and its just one big gimmick to get people to spend money. Most things don't properly utilize 3d for it to be of any real use.

I would help guide you in the direction of some more speaker options, but I'm afraid it's my bedtime lol.
