Is it a good idea.....

I have a dedicated 2-channel room thats about 17z19 or so. I only have 1 nice comfortable chair for me and that's it. I am the only one who is allowed in this room and spends most of the time locked up. Going to wire the house for whole audio in a few months and was thinking of going in-wall/ceiling for the family room since it really doesn't get that much use for movies and such. My question is, can I have essentially 4 towers in the front and have it sound good? My main concern is that the Focal's sound is not affected by me inserting another system in the room. I would bring the Monitor Audios into the room to perform Hometheater duty. The systems would be completely independent of each other. Thought about getting Focals for the rest of the system, but that's a major investment that i'm not willing to make with a newborn in the house. If feasible, what would be the best way to tackle this? I also need a place to put my mini SVS PB13-Ultra. Would I be better off selling the Monitor Audios and buying in/on-wall speakers for ht duty in that room since it is primarily a 2-channel listening room?

ok, I'll bite

Hard to tell from your post what you are getting after...

Do you plan on combining the 2 channel room with the family room (knock down a wall)

Or do you plan on using your previously 'no one is allowed in here but me' room, and letting others enter it?

I had a similiar quandry as you, given space constrictions. My solution was to buy this device called a Niles SPK-1 speaker switch (Amazon approx. $110USD).

I use it to switch between the AVR and the tube amp, and the sound goes to the same set of main speakers.

The AVR looks after the 7.1 channel sound, and the Tube amp looks after the 2 channel sound. The nice thing about this set up, is you can use the same source components. i.e I have the blu-ray multi outputing to the AVR in 7.1 analogue, and it has stereo outs feeding into the tube amp, this way I can listen to usb stick music, or network, or CD's or SACD's through the tube amp. When it is family movie time, all I do is turn on the AVR, the Niles unit switches sources based on what is powered on.

I do not like how it behaves with the above, I find I am risk averse, so I just unplug the power to the Niles switch, and it defaults back to AVR, with no risk of two amps trying to feed the speakers at the same time. Did it by accident a few times, and speakers were fine, just being paranoid.

I was actually quite ecstatic about being able to do this, and I have noticed no sound issues with using the switch, mind you, you are having champagne and caviar, while I am on bread and water. So you may be able to hear something that my equipment is not resolutiony (my new made up word for the day) enough to hear.

But from what I read, this may the easy solution. Your best choice, as I explained to my wife last nioght would ber to buy a house with a wider basement to accomadate all the speakers...she laughed at me

What are you trying to do? It's not clear to me.

No 4 towers doesn't make a lot of sense for a setup.

In-walls are a lot of work and generally don't sound great IMO. If you are worried about toddler destruction look into some low cost offerings. The dust caps are probably the biggest temptation.

Well, it's kind of a mix. I will be wiring the whole house for audio sometime this year. I'm thinking of going in wall/ceiling for the family room since we (family) really don't watch too many movies. I'd like to use my "no one is allowed room" and turn it into a theater to be used only when I'm home. Going all Focal on the speakers is not an option as it would be almost a $7,000 investment between center and rear speakers alone. My question is really whether having a front stage with 4 speakers is possible without affecting the sound from the Focals, which are the most important as I mostly care about 2-channel audio.
