Is hdmi important for my receiver connecting to Sony kds-60a2000?

I plan on buying the Sony kds-60a2000 soon, and I'm trying to figure out what receiver to get to go along with it. I know hdmi 1.3 promises significant improvements for audio, but in the current state of the technology, is a receiver that handles hdmi significantly better than one that does not? Home theater is more important to me than music, but most of my home theater use will be via hdtv movie channels through my cable company, as opposed to dvds. My budget is limited after the tv purchase(about $800), and I don't want to spend too much on a receiver if the technology will have me wanting to upgrade to a 1.3 receiver in a years time. I'd much rather spend the bulk of it on a decent set of speakers. Is this sound thinking? How do most of you who have this specific tv configure your home theater connections, and do you notice any difference using hdmi or a different type of connection?

Thanks in advance,

Brennan

Quite frankly, I see little, if any, better picture quality when I am using my HDMI connection as compared to component cable inputs.

Your thinking is quite correct (in my opinion). You can never go wrong purchasing the best set of speakers that you can afford.
