You don't really need HDMI composite will do work same and you won't notice a difference (R,G,B jacks the 2 for sound), benefits of HDMI is that it removes a lotta clutter behind the receiver 1 wire instead of 5 per item. In my oppinion did some math all receivers at these point are 1.1, thats why they don't play friendly with other HDMI devices because until ver1.2 is avaliable you can pretty much kiss backwards compatability behind, a 1.0 (usually problem item is cable box) doesent wanna play with 1.1 . Advantages of 1.3 is that it has a bigger bandwich, cable is likely to get redisigned to support more data, adaptors will be made so that ill hook up to old HDMI ver and another new plug will supposively come out smaller for digital cameras ect. The main problem with HDMI is that it's an unstable technology, it benefits mostly the movie industry to prevent copywrite and since it wasn't desingned for the consumer in mind they don't really care to iron out bugs, When composite released, S cable they didn't really get upgraded over time because they were built right. I think HDMI should just pass signals and new features should be dependant on the receiver or television aka new 45bit color will work fine with the set regardless of the source or version, les say they wanna implement looseless audio HD audio whatchamacallit, it should be up to the receiver company to decide not whenever HDMI feels like releasing a ver. HDMI 1.2 specs were released this chrismas, kinda feels bad that it's already half year and we still have 1.1 as for me I'm gonna stick to my guetto receiver that sounds just fine until HDMI 1.3 comes out.
