Is Axiom M3v2 a step up on Polk RTi6?

Obviously, only people who have heard both speakers can make this assessment. By the way, I think the RTi6's are great in home theater, and I enjoy listening to music with them. But I would like to see if I can find speakers that are clearly better than the RTi's (in music), but unfortunately my budget is limited.

Some of the professional reviews are so glowing in their praise for the Axiom M3's that it sounds possible that they might provide that clear improvement in music that I'm looking for. Does anyone have an opinion on M3's vs RTi6's?

speaker listening is SO subjective that what users or professional reviews declare to be the best speaker for thousands of dollars above it's pricepoint is so totally unreliable.

if you already have the Rti6, the logical step would be to "demo" the Axiom at your home, which means you will be absorbing shipping costs if you decide to return them.

unless there was some flaw in a speaker design or build quality, there really is NO better speaker that others can decide for you. you and your ears will decide.

check out my little write up of how different speakers sound and how it's possible I like both.

I'd would say that the shipping costs would be well worth your while. I think you would be pleasantly surprised. It's been a while since I heard the RTi6 from Polk but I'm guessing you will find the Axiom M3's will do a much better job of satisfying your new quest for clarity while retaining a level or warmth that you might be used to with the Polks. Polk, doesn't seem to want to post a frequency response graph for these speakers so it's impossible for me to say much more scientifically unless I heard them side by side.

In general though I'd take Axioms concentration on research over Polks concentration on marketing, anyday.

In the end, buy what you like, you can prove a better speaker on paper but which one you like better is totally your decision.

Edited for a PS:
I forgot to ask if you use a sub? The Axiom M22s, although slightly bigger, would bring you up a whole new notch in your quest for clarity. Pretty much as high as you can go in a bookshelf. However, they concentrate so much on detail that you need a sub to balance out the deeper bass. If you are not planning on using a good sub, stick with trying the M3s.

I have a Jamo sub, so the M22's are a possiblity. One thing I like about the M3's is I could use my presents speaker stands, but with the tall M22's I'd have to get a different stands. But sound quality is my primary concern so maybe the M22's might be the better choice.

I just picked up a pair of RTi6's for 194.00 pr. I mainly bought them due to the insane price and was going to use them in another room of the house. I was thinking they would be a mice improvement over my older Energy C1's which are a pretty good speaker.

But I will be taking the Polk's back this weekend. The tweeter is WAY to bright for my taste. The sibilance is exaggerated way to much with voices. Cymbals sound very harsh and thin. Funny thing is they have outstanding bass. Very tight and clean with good extension. But the tweeter ruined the rest of the sound.

My room is treated with Auralex. The back, front and first reflection points are all treated.

When I put my PSB's in place I get a much more natural presentation. With none of the problems listed above. Even my older Energy C1's sound better.

I was really hoping these would work out especially for the price but I think I will stick with the Energy's for now until something else comes along.

Cheers
