Is AV receiver to AV receiver as preamp possible?

Hi:

I have a Yamaha Avantage RX-A1060 as my main AV Receiver.
I'm running 7.1 speakers :
- 4 Klipsch R-14M.... 2 = Surround Back, 2 = Surround Side.
- 1 Klipsch R-12SW = Subwoofer.
- A Klipsch R-25C = Center Channel.
- 2 Bose 301V 8" = Left and Right. (Soon to be replaced by 2 Klipsch R-28F)

I have a SONY ZA-3000ES A/V receiver I'm not using.
I want to use the SONY as a External Amp or Preamp or Integrated Amp (I'm not sure the term) to run my left and right speakers only. (Soon to be Klipsch R-28F :^))

According to by Yamaha RX-A1060 manual (page 27)
When connecting an External Amp:
They recommend using power amplifiers that meet the following conditions:
• With unbalanced inputs
• With volume control bypass (or without volume control circuit)

Soooooo, my questions are:
1. What is an "Unbalanced input" and why do I need it?
2. What is "Volume Control Bypass" and why do I need it?
3. Does the SONY ZA-3000ES have: "Unbalanced Inputs" & "Volume Control Bypass"
4. Is there a way around it?
5. Which input do I use on the SONY ZA-3000ES receiver.
6. What Sound Field do I use on the SONY ZA-3000ES receiver.

Thanks you,

Wil Thomas

I wouldnt think you would need the minimal extra power, but if you did want to you would run main preouts from the Yamaha to either an input or multichannel input if your Sony has them
You wouldn't use any sound processing

All of your connections are unbalanced so it a moot issue. Balanced connections are typically for long runs to reduce noise interference.

Volume control bypass allows the main unit to control the volume, again moot point. I would not bother using the Sony, except as a multizone amp.

FWIW unbalanced (or single ended) connections are the rca type connections on your units. Balanced are a different type of connector, typically XLR, which you don't have anyways.

You'll need to find a volume setting on the Sony that works well with the levels for your other avr/speakers and just leave it alone at that point and it will essentially become a volume control bypass. Most consumer power amps have no adjustment for gain or volume.
